Why is it that everytime we travel somebody gets sick?

DS started complaining about a sore throat about 3 days ago. Today made day 4. DD started complaining last night. I thought I better get them into the doc before leaving to be sure it wasn’t more than just the allergies I suspected. I was wrong! It’s a good thing we went. DS tested positive for strep. Good thing is we’re starting the antibiotics in time to hopefully salvage the vacation. DD did not test positive but he’s treating her anyway as we don’t want to be stuck in the middle of the ocean when she comes down with it.Â
On that note…I’m not feeling terrific either.  I’m not convinced it’s strep for me yet either but put a call into my doc too. Last time I called on a Thursday they couldn’t get me in until Monday. I ended up going to emergency care and having it cost me $100 bucks vs. the $20 in his office. This time they said no appointments but they’ll call back. So she calls me and says she can get me in at 2 Friday. Uhm…I won’t be here at 2 on Friday. I’ll be on a boat in the middle of the ocean! Well he hasn’t seen you in over a year and he can’t write a prescription until he sees me. He can see you Friday at 2. Again I told her….I will not be here. I will be on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Can she get me in and out before 11 on Thurs? I will be leaving after that. (It’s like a broken record.) She says…she can get me in on Friday at 2. I’m thinking…what part of this are you not getting? I WILL BE ON A BOAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEAN! I explain to her that I am not going to cancel a $2000.+ trip to come in to see him. FINALLY she says, “What is the number to your pharmacy?” She will call me in a RX for antibiotic. I’m still not convinced I need it. I’d really rather have seen the doc and had a strep test done. I’ll be looking for another office when I return. It gets very frustrating that when you NEED to go, they can’t get you in. I’m going to find someone who can. Can you tell I’m not a happy camper?Â
Yesterday I looked up the weather for Nassau for Friday when we’re due into port. The prospects did not look good. 100% precipitation. I checked today and it says partly cloudy. What? In less than 24 hours time the prediction goes from 100% precipitation to partly cloudy? Big difference. I guess we’ll find out when we get there. I’m really hoping for the later of the predictions.Â

Boy is this week starting off in a whirlwind. I find it hard to believe it’s only Tuesday. I had a migrane this weekend and it sort of messed with my schedule, but I hit the road running yesterday. I found out about a one week course that I could take to cover 3 of my 6 hours of classes that I need to renew my teaching certificate. Problem is it starts in two weeks and I haven’t even registered with this college before. I contacted them and it looks like it’s a go, I just had to get all the stuff together to register and get it sent off today. One of my rush jobs. I also have to cover care for my kids for that week. A very generous friend offered, but I couldn’t really ask one person to do that. DD is in school and she will not be an issue. DS is in a camp that week but it ends at 2. My classes don’t end until 4. So…I have a friend to keep him, but no transportation from the camp to her home. I spoke to a friend who is running this camp and she gave me a couple of names of others in the classes and they will take turns toting him and his friend home. I am truely blessed to have folks who will just jump in and offer to help and others who are so willing when I ask for help.Â
The other “extra” on my plate this week is a cruise. I’m preparing for a Disney Cruise and am so excited to get to go with my family. Yeah! I’m looking forward to some time to relax and have my kids entertained as well.Â
The third of July I’m real excited about an opportunity to meet Kathleen and Peggy in real person. I sure hope all works out that we can meet up at the scheduled time. I’ll let you know all about it when I get back.Â

The Kid’s did it again! They made me laugh out loud!

I picked DS up from the Science Center yesterday and he was telling me about his day. He told me he made something from Plaster of France. I asked, “Plaster of France? What is that?” Thinking there was something new on the market I was unaware of. He showed me his project. It was Plaster of Paris.  I guess he knows his geography.
Then we met some friends for dinner last night. On the drive him DD was talking about two of the girls she sat with at dinner. She said she was going to miss her new friends Katie and Watermellon.  The girls name was “Melanie”. Kids say the darndest things!

It’s Friday! Huray!

I am so glad that this Friday is here. DS took his last class at the Science Center today. It’s 2.5 hours out of my day when he goes. 30 minutes driving there, 30 minutes home and I make the trip twice. Then I also have to get DD to school and that’s another 15 minutes added each trip. He has two other camps this summer, but both are in this area, so the drive won’t be so bad.Â
I chatted with a friend of mine yesterday about some classes I was going to take in the fall. She told me about some that are offered this summer. I figured it was too late to get in, but I contacted the school anyway. Sure enough, there is still room in some of the classes. Not the one I really wanted mind you but some that will do the job. (I have to take 6 college credit hours every five years to maintain my teaching certificate.) I talked to DH about it and told him how much it would help to have at least one out of the way, but it’s not the course I want. DH suggested I go ahead and take it, to have the credit hours out of the way and then to go back and take the one that I want at my leisure. It will make life less stressed in the fall to only have one course to take instead of two. So I may go ahead and do it. Then my other courses can go towards the next five years.
I’m doing a homeschool eval this morning. I’m waiting on the arrival of the children. They were supposed to be here 30 minutes ago, but the mom called and said she was running late. It’s nice though. Gave me a few extra minutes to come here. I’ll try to get by and do some visits after while. Happy Weekend!

And I’m actually paying money for it!

I have a close friend that I chat with almost daily. It is seldom that we miss a day without at least a “Hey, how ya doing?” I’ve been telling her about DS’s Science Camp that he’s been attending and I had to laugh at her response yesterday. The title of this class is “Oh Gross!” The first day I picked him up he had a terrible looking wound on his arm (created with toilet paper, food coloring, corn syrup and other “stuff”). My response? “Oh Gross!” The next day I picked him up I was greeted with a bag of fake poop and snot. “Oh Gross!” So yesterday my dear friend and I were chatting about it and what to expect when I picked him up today. She suggested fake vomit and we giggled about it. Then she commented on the fact that I actually paid money for this class for him. Yeah! I guess I did! ROFLOL. By the way, the subject of yesterday’s class? Farts. They learned about gassy foods, what causes them and experiemented to see if they could eat some of these foods and have success. Uhm…yes, they worked.
