Clip Clop

Blockbuster has an online deal.  You can try out the DVD rental service for two weeks at no cost.  So we’re doing it. THe trial is 3 DVD’s at a time.  It takes them two days to get to us when we order.  I’m really quite impressed, but no way do I have time to watch that many movies.  I think we’ll probably keep it but knock it down to a lower level rental.  Today I’m watching The Davinci Code.  I read the book several years ago.  I NEVER like a movie as much as the book, but I ALWAYS have to watch them anyway.  LOL  I’m just curious to see what someone else’s interpretation of the story is compared to mine.

While sitting here watching the movie I heard clip clop, clip clop outside.  Curious as I am I walked to the window to check it out.  Three city Mounties were riding by.  They are always fun  to see and bring back memories of parades as such where they usually lead…but always sort of startles me.  The last time we had them around in the middle of the day (that I know of) was when we had some robberies going on and there was a murder nearby.  Guess I need to do a check of the police reports online and see if I should be aware of anything and more cautious than usual.

Enjoy your day. I’m planning to do some relaxing.

Understanding Local Government and International Baccalaureates

What a day Monday was.  I work in DS’s classroom a few times each week and yesterday was one of them.  I went directly from there to a meeting I had at church with our pastor on some church business and then to run a couple of errands.  I went back to school to have lunch with DS.  I got home and had about 1 hour to do some chores and take a few minutes to relax before heading out again.  I was asked to represent our school at a county governmental meeting.  Let me back up a bit to explain the issue.  In a school board meeting a little over a year ago, the new superintendent brought up the idea of consolodating some “smaller” schools to save money and resources.  He asked the board for permission to do  study on the feasibility of the idea and the repercussions that could bring about.  A list of schools was made and several in our area were on it.  So these schools have banned together to create a group to attempt to keep this from happening.  I wasn’t sure why we would be approaching the county commissioners on this issue, but I was willing to make the stand for our school.  I’m thinking as I’m going that it’s a commissioner’s meeting.  So I get there and everyone is titled Senator and Representative.  I’m thinking HUH?  I thought they were county commissioners.  I follow thru with what I’m expected to do which is basically stand to represent our school when the speaker began. She was asking these government officials to keep an eye on what the school board was doing…”PAY CLOSE ATTENTION” and brought up some of the issues that could be brought to light should it happen.  Mainly unfair educational practices for minorities due to having to bus.   It’s all over and I’m still a bit confused.  I stop to get my children from a friend’s who picked them up from school.  I share with her my experience and now we’re both confused.   ROFLOL   DH gets home from work and I explain to him and ask him about what sort of meeting this was and why these folks would have any influence on our county school board.  He starts laughing at me.  He explained I was at a “LOCAL, STATE Representative meeting.  AH!  The light goes on.  I can be such a dunce sometimes.  Not only that but I have two people (my friend and my sister whom I also shared with) wondering about what other level of county government is out there that we were unaware of and what influence they might have over the school board.  ROFLOL)  Guess I have some splainin’  to do.

Well in my conversation with DH he tells me he wants all of us to attend this meeting at our zoned Middle School on the International Baccalaureate program that they offer.  Basically we have real issues with this school (I refuse to allow DS to attend this school.)  I sent DH on a wild goose chase to find some other alternatives only to find that the international baccalaureate is our only recourse and guess where it’s housed?  The same school.  UGH.  I have to say I was extremely impressed with the program and it is certainly the sort of education I would love my son to have…but not in a school that has such a high rate of gang activity surrounding it.  If you’re curious what the IB program is, here’s a website to explain it.  (http://www.ibo.org)

I got home around 8:15 and was so tired.  Everyone was in bed asleep by 10.  Pooped!  Today is less stress.  I’m going to work on some cards and scrapbooking.  Hope you have a wonderful Tuesday.

They Walk Among Us

My S-I-L sent me this post yesterday and it was full of these little stories.  Here’s one that I got a kick out of.

Some guy bought a new fridge for his house.
To get rid of his old fridge, he put it in his front yard and hung a sign on it saying:
“Free to good home.
You want it, you take it.”
For three days the fridge sat there without even one person looking twice at it.
He eventually decided that people were too untrusting of this deal.   It looked too good to be true, so he changed the sign to
read: “Fridge for sale $50.”
The next day someone stole it.

Just like our society.  If there is no value on something no one wants it.  Stick a value on it and someone will try to steel it.

Today we’re off to the big “PINEWOOD DERBY”.  We always have so much fun with this event.  This year DS also made a car for his sister.  She got to paint it.  Too cute!  I’ll share pics after the event.  Wish him luck!

Weeks End

Ah, Friday is here.  It is a bit chilly for us thin blooded Florida folk.  I just checked out the weather and it looks like it’s going to stick with us for a few days.  Our houses are not insulated for this stuff either.  Whenever you get near a wall you just feel the cold seeping in.  I guess I better wash up whatever “cold weather” clothes we have.  I love the cold!  Except for mornings.  It is so hard to get out of bed on a cold morning.  Being under the covers is warm and snuggly.  I’m glad it’s Friday because tomorrow I have grand plans of doing just that.  Staying snuggly under the covers until I’m good and ready to get up.  Don’t those sound like grand plans for a weekend.  LOL, I’m pitiful!

Today’s goal is to clean out the “game” closet.  I’m planning a garage sale on the 9th of February.  I want to have everything I don’t plan to keep either in the sale or tossed by then.  Woowhoo.  The clutter is going away!

I’m off to make headway on the closet.  Stay warm and have a grand weekend.

Wednesday! Half way there!

I am dragging today as is my son.  I don’t think the weather is helping much.  St Augustine was great fun.  I had three boys to deal with and enjoyed them all.  One of the children my son spends lots of time with at school.  They have a lot in common academically, but are two completely different children.  This was my first opportunity to spend time with him.  He said very little (my son never shuts up) and was very laid back.  My son is intense.  Maybe that’s why they get along.  Opposites attract.  I’m mad as heck at myself today.  I bought my daughter a ring.  It’s really cool!  You tell them the name to carve and they carve it right there in front of you.  My daughter’s name is spelled very differently so I can’t find things with her name spelled correctly on it.  I thought this would be great…since he carves it, she’ll have it spelled right.  I didn’t have my glasses and so didn’t realize until today….it’s not spelled right!  UGH!  I have a friend going in April…I’ll ask her to try again for me.

I got so tickled at the fort there.  We had this one woman who was very “ENTHUSIASTIC” as our guide.  About 5 minutes into the tour my son pulls me aside and says, “Mom, she makes me feel really funny inside when she talks.”  I asked him to explain further.  Does he feel like she talks down to him?  Does she make him feel excited inside?  He said, “She makes him feel OVEREXCITED!”  He didn’t like her excitement.  LOL…kids!

I’m off to rest awhile while I can.  It’s off to get DD in 30 minutes and then there’s no chance for a rest.  Happy HumpDay.  We’re on our way down to the weekend.
